Do YOU Believe in God?

Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son ?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is GOD good ?

Student : Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?

Student : Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn't.  How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

(Student was silent.)

Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Is Satan good ?

Student : No.

Professor: Where does Satan come from ?

Student : From … GOD …

Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn't it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Student : Yes.

Professor: So who created evil ?

(Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

(Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theater became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, super heat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't.  If it is, well you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?

(The class broke out into laughter. )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

By the way, that student was EINSTEIN.

27) What is your favorite part of your body and why?

My favorite part of my body would probably be.... either my eyes or my legs. I LOVE my legs in high heels. Hehe. Buuut it is kinda hard to wear high heels (I would like to wear) in Sweden with all the walking and running to the bus and such.

I like my eyes because I use to think I use to have poopy brown eyes, until I looked a bit closer. In my eyes, I also have a bit of blue. I use a blue eyeliner, and it brings out the orange (under the brown) in my eyes, and I just LOVE how it makes my eyes pop. I guess the artist comes out in me when I do my makeup. "When you are painting on makeup, you are like an artist, but instead of painting a canvas, you're painting a face"

26) What popular notion do you think the world has most wrong?

The first thing that came to my mind with this question was: Marriage. I very strongly believe in a good and wholesome marriage. That was how I was raised. Majority people most likely weren't raised like me... but who knows. All I know how important marriage is, with the strong connection, determination, dedication,  and faithfulness. And that is the part I LOVE about marriage!!!! Spending your whole life with someone, knowing they will be as dedicated as you as you raise a family together.
Not that I am against those who don't get married, it just makes me sad when those marital commitments aren't made. That is what I believe :D

23) List your top 3 hobbies and why you love them.

1. Painting. When I paint, I feel so calm and excited to be working on something. When I paint something, I usually work on a painting for someone else and I can't stop thinking about how much they will (hopefully) like it and enjoy it. I love that feeling of watching a person's face when I give them a painting, and doing that service for them and I don't expect anything in return. I love holding a brush, letting my mind go blank and finding out what colors my brush will make.

2. Crocheting. (Such a weird word) I mostly like to while Joel plays video games. But, I find it nice to talk while I crochet, and he can't talk while he plays soooo sometimes that isn't fun. I learned to crochet about a yearish ago during college. Me and two other friends made it a goal to once a week do a craft the whole semester. I was SO FRUSTRATED at first, and I did not like it. Thank goodness I stuck with it! I then taught my sister how to and we would crochet together. Lots of fun memories!

That was Cheeto. She is OBSESSED with my computer. Always pushing buttons... I guess she is another hobby? haha! I always say I have a hard time getting things done with her always lounging on my computer. Then Joel always says, "Well. Imagine how much crazier it will be with a toddler running around??" Touché.

21) If you could have one superpower, what would it be and what would you do with it first?

If I could have ONE superpower.... Geez there are so many to choose from!! The first one that came to my mind was being able to FLY. I have had so many dreams about it! It is simple, yet it would be amazing. I am not afraid of heights, but I am cautious when I am up so high... Like if I were to fall or something. BUT if you can fly, you wouldn't have that problem! You would support yourself :)

My thing is if I am talking with someone about superpowers, people get so stinkin creative!!!! I just want to fly. And thinking about it while writing this... makes me want to so bad!!!

I'd only want to fly with this cute fruit loop.

What would your superpower be??

20) Describe 3 significant memories from your childhood.

1. Kindergarten. I was super shy, and we were having a competition in class. It was to see who could blow the biggest bubble out of their gum. I don't remember if I was mad I didn't win... But I do remember who did win. Brock Bigler. Because if I remember correctly he used 3 PIECES OF GUM. And I had only used one. For some reason I was FURIOUS.

2. Kindergarten once again.  Perhaps First grade. I knew the kids were all playing kiss tag, and I knew the boy that wanted to kiss me. And I did NOT want him to kiss me. All I remember is being one of the last ones out of the classroom, and attempting to secretly look out the door so I wouldn't get caught.

3. Fourth grade... I can't remember who it was, but every time I got in line to eat lunch (we had to line up alphabetically) someone gave me a "flat tire" or stepped on the heel of my shoe to make it come off. So sad, right?? Of course I didn't like being bullied, even though it was something so small. From that point on I decided I would never be mean to anyone.

Now I am not sure if these are quite "significant memories", but they are the first ones I though of ;)

19) If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?

hahahahahhaha! What a FUNNY question to be asking me right now!!!

I am so torn. Living in Sweden is so much fun and unique. I love getting to know Joel's family, the people in the ward, and at my Swedish for Immigrants class. Meeting new people has been so much fun, and a real eye opener.
I love the people, the shopping and the food...

You see, in September/October of 2011 Joel and I made this huge, long, and time consuming list. Deciding where to live after we were married. The two most important things came down to living in Utah for my family, or living in Sweden for Joel's job opportunity.

Not that my family isn't more important... It was the toughest decision I have had to make in my life. My mom said something SUPER profound though! "I would rather you live in Sweden and be secure than live in the States and struggle..."

Now, Joel has decided to go back to school and the option of moving back to Utah has opened up. Now the reason why I moved here has changed. Now we are just 'here'. Not sure how realistic moving back is, but it is an option.

THEN EVEN MORE PROBLEMS COME UP. Because school is free here. If we stay here I would work and he could go to school.

BUT. He was born in Utah so he is an American citizen and it would be a piece of cake setting it up to have him live there...

Going to school in Utah makes sense in my head. That way he could "build up" all of his contacts. "It isn't what you know, but who you know" Joel says all the time....
So going to school in Utah makes sense if he would like to work there right??!

The thought of starting school here and finishing there is basically out of the question... We'd have to really look into it and see how it would work, if it would.

All of these thoughts are kinda confusing, I know. I really am torn, 50/50.

We live here in Sweden and are content. Is it time for change? How do we know when is a good time for change? Do we dare go out of our comfort system? The longer we are here, the more we get settled in.
Then I start thinking what if we did move....
Now I am use to how things work in Sweden. We would have to buy a car in Utah!!!! How expensive. Would we sell everything we have an just move?? How would that work??!

See why I am confused?

Ps- we did look up how it would work to fly with a cat... and it is possible :) Who could leave this cute face???

18) What has been the most difficult thing you have had to forgive?

The hard part with this question is how personal to make it....

I guess I won't go into too many details, but I know I have made mistakes in the past (along with most people, hopefully??) and I have figured out the hardest thing to do when something has gone wrong is to forgive myself. Whether that be something dumb I did in high school, saying something to my mom..... Whatever it might be, controlling my thoughts and forgiving myself (for me) is harder than forgiving others.

Plus it doesn't help too much that I am hard on myself. This is where Christ's atonement comes into play for me, and I need him the most. All the mistakes I have made I could not have done it on my own. Thank goodness God is merciful!! I heard this quote, "Nothing you confess could make me love you less." Not sure if Christ actually said that, but the saying is true. No matter what I have done, he will never stop loving me, even if I have a hard time forgiving myself.

17) What is the thing you most wish you were great at?

The first thing that popped in my head was painting. I know I have some talent for it... But I wish I didn't put myself down or doubt myself so much.

I love painting, I just wish I had a smudge of more talent. I also have a hard time comparing myself to others talents... I think my problem is figuring out what to do with what I have right now.

I really wish I could figure out a way to be super good at (in the future) painting, selling my paintings, while being a stay at home mom... hmmmm possible? Maybe?? I guess we will have to find out :) That is all I want to do, I don't see myself doing anything else really job-wise! Whether it be in Sweden or in the states... we shall see ;)
